Not only that but it's taking energy from people walking who are already
expending energy, making it harder for them to walk. I can imagine it
being a bit like walking on sand versus pavement.
Isn't it backwards to take energy from people who are using it
efficiently to power vehicles for those who aren't walking?
(Ok, I realize the energy can be used any way. )

A Watt is not a measure of energy. A joule is not a Watt, it's a Watt-
second.
If the footsteps were used from one of London's busiest shopping
locations: Oxford Street, enough energy would be generated from a day
of people walking to drive a car 953 miles. All the way from London
to
Barcelona and further!
An entire crowd walking all day provides enough energy for maybe 15-20
people's cars for one day. And for only a few million dollars' worth
of
gear buried in the sidewalk. Such a deal!
