A small group of local electric vehicle devotees is gearing up for a promotional effort members are calling Louisville Drive Electric Week in early September. The group has been meeting monthly for nearly a year and plans to showcase plug-in cars on Sept. 5 and 6 at the Flea Off Market on Market Street east of downtown. The event is designed to increase awareness of the features and benefits of electric vehicles. At the two-day event, being called LOU DEW, people will be able to ask questions, take a test drive or ride along and see first hand what makes electric cars cleaner, more cost-effective and more fun to drive than their gasoline counterparts, the sponsors said. The event will run from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. both days. The rain date will be the following weekend. In a release, members say they "drive all sorts of electric vehicles, including the Tesla Model S, Nissan Leaf, Ford Focus EV, and Mitsubishi EV, just to name a few. Also as part of Louisville Drive Electric Week, the group will show off an electric car-themed movie at Sullivan University on the evening of Sept. 12, and the group will have a booth at the Gaslight Festival in Jeffersontown on the weekend of Sept. 18-20. Louisville’s event is one of more than 150 across the country at which electric vehicle owners and advocates are holding electric car parades, “tailpipe-free” tailgate parties, ride-and-drives, and other public events.
