'Leaf’s depreciation is comparable to a pack of Sharpies left out in the sun
with their caps off'

Hyperbole aside, the used price of something is irrelevant unless you need to sell it.

For example, Tesla's stock price is a roller-coaster. It was at 287 in Sept 2014, and down to 181 in March 2015. Does that mean you got screwed? Only if you sold it! If you just kept it, it was back up to 275 in July.

If your Leaf is running fine, and doing everything you want it to, then there is no point to selling it. Especially *not* when the market is down! If you have an early Leaf and are concerned that the battery might fail, remember that the EPA requires Nissan to cover it with a long warranty because it's part of the "emission control system". Nissan has so far weaseled out of replacing batteries that show only a partial loss of capacity; but they will be hard pressed to deny coverage if it gets down to (say) 50%. It's also a safe bet that replacement batteries will become available, if not from Nissan then from some other enterprising source.

And of course, you have to expect that the batteries will get worse over time. All batteries do.
