(Photo: Submitted photo: Gregg Felsen) ] The clean-energy duo of electric vehicles and solar power will take a high-wattage placement at the upcoming Canada/Snowbird Festival. “We plan activities that will be of interest – like the first ever electric vehicle show in the desert,” said Bette King, lead organizer for the fourth annual Canada/Snowbird Fest on Feb. 27 and 28 at the Agua Caliente Resort Casino Spa in Rancho Mirage. The festival is aimed at Canadian visitors, snowbirds and others who often flock south for southern California’s mild winters. “It’s the desert’s No. 1 ‘resource fair,’ where the Canadians, the U.S. snowbirds, the international tourists and the locals come together to share in our desert lifestyle,” said King. It is estimated that more than 450,000 Canadians and 250,000 U.S. Snowbirds annually travel to the desert for the region’s sunny weather. “It’s not a business expo. It’s not a swap meet. And it’s not a home-show. This is a research fair,” she added. “And it’s an opportunity for everybody to come together, enjoy the entertainment, new products, new services, new technologies and see the special offers.” The event includes lectures, vendors, regional foods, book-signings, entertainment and more. An evening concert, staged at the casino, called Rock Roll N’ R&B will feature acts like Jocko Marcellino of Sha Na Na along with Ron Moss and Peter Beckett from the 1970s pop band Player. Tickets are $25 to $75. Also, a Polynesian revue tribute to Don Ho called “Return to Paradise” will be staged. “There isn’t another one like this,” King said of Canada Fest, adding the event is expected to draw up to 10,000 attendees. Tickets for Canada-Snowbird Fest are $10 each. Free self-parking is available. A $65 all-inclusive ticket, which includes the live entertainment is also available. “We’re not attracting people from just around here. It’s attracting from the surrounding areas like up north or Phoenix,” said King, who noted the Casino location adds as another attraction. The electric vehicle show will feature everything from mobility devices to electric-hybrid pick-up trucks by Via Motors, the Utah-based electric vehicle company. “It’s nice to go somewhere and see things that you don’t normally see,” said King. Argent Solar, which has offices in Indio and Arizona, will have a place at the festival as will some 135 other vendors. “We have some really very interesting vendors,” said King.
