When I realized I couldn't build a nice electric car for what I could buy one
for I gave up and bought a used Leaf EV. But Zelectric has taken it to another
level. http://www.zelectricmotors.com/ Enthusiasts will pay 30k plus for an
old VW bus with an RV package. More for 4 wheel drive. But Zelectric has
taken it to another level. Jay Leno level restomods (restored & modified)that
use electric drive trains to make these old rust buckets...sorry but a lot of
them are just that...into creations of beauty with dependable modern
technology. A basic conversion with a 60 mile range for a bus is 130k. Now
this is an extreme price in my opinion but some people appreciate this kind of
attention to detail for instance John Wayland. http://www.evalbum.com/036.html
His 1972 Datsun 1200 Coupe..not to be confused with the fastback... is a thing
of beauty. Interior, exterior and under the hood is all neat and tidy and
ready for a show including a kick ass sound system. If you were
to ask John how much he might say 20k but he has sponsors and the skills and
taste to make it happen. But as nice as the Zelectric vehicles are I just
can't get past the price that is more than a Tesla for something that once was
a throw away. My first EV was a 1956 VW conversion to electric....I do miss it
but I bought it for 2k not running and sold for 4k running with a new battery
pack. It was fun but you see the difference from the year 2000 to now(I didn't
restore it, this is known as a derelict) also the vehicle only had a 40 mile
range but it was 40 miles of fun. I know some will be shocked at vehicles not
original but times are changing. My next project might be an Ultravan(3000
pound RV)with a Leaf drive train...the Nissan Leaf weighs 3,300 pounds...It
should work...especially with a 3kw solar array on the roof. the original had a
Corvair engine. My version won't choke you to death....or anyone else....now
where can I find a Corvair to convert to electric...ju
st kidding Arcane guys. Lawrence Rhodes
