The Advanced Performance Electric (A.P.E.) UTV is the debut utility vehicle
from Flambeau Outdoors, a company that has been supplying products for
outdoor activities, including hunting and fishing for decades. Flambeau
Outdoors decided to tap the automotive segment, and the APE UTV is only
their first attempt in this niche.

Obviously, the noise ATVs and quads make is not the best thing when it comes
to hunting and fishing, so Flambeau Outdoors' choice for going all-electric
was only natural. Likewise, thanks to being almost dead-silent and with zero
emissions, electric vehicles could be granted access to places where
petrol-powered machines would not be allowed, this increasing their
functionality.

The A.P.E. was introduced at the recent SHOT Show in Las Vegas as a
pre-production unit. This means that the figures on its tech spec sheet
might change when the A.P.E. reaches the mass production stage.

So far, Flambeau Outdoors offers this silent quad in a 48V version that
draws power from an array of eight 6-volt batteries. The final trim of the
UTV will be upgradeable to higher-spec batteries, such as Lithium ones.
According to Flambeau Outdoors sources, the battery pack replacement costs
start at $540 for a six-pack, and the company also makes sure that special
battery maintenance routines are performed to prolong the life of the cells.

A top speed of 18 mph and a maximum range of 50 miles

The Flambeau Outdoors A.P.E. was built for the purpose and is not a
derivation from golf carts or other similar vehicles, and its four operation
modes are also designed to serve the intended use as well as possible.

The LOW mode allows for 100% torque and a 10 mph (16 km/h) top speed, while
HIGH allows for 80% torque and an 18 mph (29 km/h) top speed. The third mode
is MAX RANGE, and it provides half the torque but an estimated range of 50
miles or 80 km (in ideal conditions). A fourth mode is STEALTH, which limits
the speed to 3 mph (5 km/h).

A.P.E. comes with four regenerative disc brakes and can produce a peak power
of 26 hp. A full charge takes 8-12 hours, and the standard battery pack can
hold just over 12 kWh. On-demand 4WD/2WD with front limited slip
differential is standard, too.

With a weight of 1,550 lb (702 kg) the A.P.E. can tow 1,500 lb (680 kg) and
has a 500 lb (227 kg) cargo bed capacity. Price and availability to be
revealed soon.
