If you are going to weld, do NOT use bed frames! The metal has a special treatment that makes it more like spring steel. It is very difficult to drill and, if you weld it, the welds will eventually crack due to vibration. A friend told me this years ago but I used it anyway, only to discover he was right. Now I spend the money for mild steel. It's worth the added expense.
