Why restrict parking for electric cars? There's actually a good reason. The letter to the editor, "Discriminating against gasoline" (March 30) [ http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/opinion/editorial/bs-ed-parking-letter-20160330-story.html ], shows the challenge in educating the masses to the coming future of renewable energy. The writer is incensed that he cannot park his gas-powered car in an electric vehicle charging space. He is ignorant of the difference between a "parking" space and a "charging" space. The idea that gas cars should not park and block electric vehicle charging spots is no more onerous than the courtesy that electric vehicle owners give to gasoline drivers by not parking all day in a space that would block their gas pumps. Just a simple 120v outlet by a parking spot can replenish almost 40 miles during an 8-hour workday.
