If they make that much fuss about the tiny amount of electricity used to
charge a mobile phone, what do you think they'll say about an EV?

Even if you get permission, you still can get hassled by police.  It's just
not worth the headache, IMO.

You must live in a much less understanding area. Charging a homeless person for "stealing electricity" to charge their cellphone is simply mean-spirited, prejudiced and vindictive.

For decades, I have driven EVs. On many occasions, I have opportunity charged at locations both public and private, when I need some extra "juice" to complete the trip. I always ask, and have almost never been turned down. I always volunteer to pay for the electricity, and the offer is almost never accepted.
