And if you are, at least hang around the vehicle for the 45 minutes it takes to get your charge / Tesla Worldwide Owners Facebook group ] Electric vehicles are still in their infancy, so there are many EV-related trails that have not yet been fully blazed. One of those is charger etiquette. If you're a first-time EV owner you may not be sure how to behave at a charging station. Let the story here stand as a lesson to those who think that parking across three charging spaces is a perfectly fine thing to do. Electrek pointed our attention to the Tesla Worldwide Owners Facebook group [ https://www.facebook.com/groups/teslaworldwide/ ], where a user named Debra called out the Model X pictured above. The offending Tesla was parked at a Supercharger station in Delaware. The post begins: "Dear California jackhole, Here in Delaware we think it is rude to take 3 supercharger spaces with one vehicle. What is wrong with you?????? This takes selfishness to a new level." Aside from "California jackhole" being my new favorite insult to hurl at someone, this story highlights the troubles that will undoubtedly continue to appear -- not just at Tesla's Superchargers, but also at other charging spaces across the country. Is it a dick move to take up three spaces of limited quantity? Absolutely. But, as Electrek notes, it's not necessarily a case of complete boneheadedness. Bike racks aren't easy to remove, and the owner could have been standing nearby to move the vehicle if space became limited and others needed a charge. Since it's likely that the "jackhole" would have objected to having their car photographed and publicly shamed, there's a good chance they weren't around to quickly move the car. Regardless of whether or not the driver was on hand to correct their mistake, I think it goes without saying that you should try to avoid doing something like this at all costs. Don't be that guy. The Model X in question decided to block 3 Supercharger stalls instead of removing its bike rack, which is seen as a breach of the unofficial Supercharger etiquette. The pictures were posted to the Tesla Worldwide Owners group on Facebook and were later shared on other Tesla communities on Reddit and other forums – generating hundreds of comments. Unsurprisingly, the comments were generally negative toward the Model X owner. The Tesla owner who posted the picture, Debra, wrote: Dear California jackhole, Here in Delaware we think it is rude to take 3 supercharger spaces with one vehicle. What is wrong with you?????? This takes selfishness to a new level. Note: To everyone commenting that he had to park like this because of the bike, there were better ways to do this. Even backing in at an angle would have been better because you only would use two spaces. This was the least considerate choice. AND he was there longer than we were. SMH The “California Jackhole” insult was because a California license plate was installed on the vehicle. One Redditor, TeslaPittsburgh, was one of only a few community members giving the Model X owner the benefit of the doubt: Removing a rack is a bit demanding but certainly should be sure there are available slots for others and stay with the vehicle and move if necessary. I won’t condemn this owner without seeing what the availability of the other Superchargers was at the same time. He has a good point, but that would require the owner to stick around in order to be ready to move the vehicle if another Tesla is coming to charge. It not clear if the owner would have been able to do that in this case. It certainly highlights a few minor difficulties with electric vehicle charging, especially now that the Model X is able to tow a trailer (and obviously a bike rack). Maybe some charging station configurations will need to be updated in order for a vehicle with a trailer to park without having to remove it. In the meantime, the respectful thing to do, and what the unofficial Tesla Supercharger etiquette would suggest, would be to stay around the car and be ready to move it if need be. Or at least leave a note with contact information. [© electrek.co] http://longtailpipe.com/2014/08/17/the-word-for-tesla-model-s-hogging-ev/ The word for a Tesla Model S hogging an EV Charging spot?
