Ok, I'm back after some pretty big email problems. I took the time to do a more
complete analysis of my needs. I'll start with the deal killers. If I can't do
them, then I'll just scrap the vehicle and go find a used Leaf.
Pull my boat out of the water. Boat and trailer come in at about 800 kg. The
truck itself currently weighs about 700 kg. I only do this once a year, but not
being able to use the Hijet probably means getting someone else to do it for
me.
$10000 budget (Canadian dollars).
Ok, now the basics:I can live with 60 km/hr, but based on what I've read here,
speed up to about 80 km/hr shouldn't be a problem.
60 km range minimum. I could easily live with that for the life of the vehicle,
but it would be nice to plan for getting 3 times that in a series of upgrades
over time. There is no point getting more range if I can't get 80 km/hr.
I can have 240 volts installed for charging, but I don't know if that makes
sense with only 60 km range. It will always have overnight to charge.
Some kind of cab heater for winter. In a perfect world, it would be a heat pump
so that I could get AC, too.
I know that a used Leaf or something makes a lot of sense, but a Leaf would
likely be only a commuter. We need some kind of workhorse and our Forester
doesn't really have what it takes (we should have got the automatic because the
standard takes a lot of clutch slipping to pull the boat out).
Thanks.
Ron
