Dueto the continued questions of safety surrounding the five fires with
theAmerican manufactured  Tesla Model S, it seemed time to address theultimate
measures of safety. Life, and Injury. For this westart with the data

U.S. fire departmentsresponded to an estimated average of 152,300 automobile
fires per year in the2006-2010 time period. These fires caused an average of
209 civilian deaths,764 civilian injuries, and $536 million in direct property
damage.

Factsand Figures

·       Automobilefires were involved in 10% of reported U.S. fires, 6% of U.S.
fire deaths.

·       Onaverage, 17 automobile fires were reported per hour. These fires
killed anaverage of four people every week.

·       Mechanicalor electrical failures or malfunctions were factors in
roughly two-thirds ofthe automobile fires.

·       Collisionsand overturns were factors in only 4% of highway vehicle
fires, but theseincidents accounted for three of every five (60%) automobile
fire deaths.

·       Only2%of automobile fires began in fuel tanks or fuel lines, but these
incidentscaused 15% of the automobile fire deaths.

·       Althoughcollisions or overturns were factors in only 3% of the fires,
58% of the deathsresulted from these incidents. Older vehicles were more likely
to have a firecaused by mechanical or electrical failures.

·       Accordingto the U.S Federal Highway Administration data, roughly 2,980
billion mileswere driven, on average, per year on U.S. roads during this
period. Roughly 90highway vehicle fires and 0.15 highway vehicle fire deaths
were reported perbillion miles driven.

Marty Ahrens, September 2012.

Thebillion electric mile mark comparison (updated February 2014)

The50,000+ Chevrolet Volts now have over 390,000,000+ electric miles
and625,000,000+ total miles driven, the 100,000+ Nissan LEAFs now have
over420,000,000+ electric miles driven, and the 30,000+ Tesla Model S sedans
haveover 125,000,000+ miles driven.  With the remaining  Ford Energiseries,
Toyota PiP  and other combined plug-in models, we are wellover one billion
electric miles driven.

With these new so-calledexperimental vehicles, we have nowhere near the 90
vehicle fires per billionmiles caused in ICEs,  no deaths,  and nowhere near
the fire relatedinjuries.

Of those 4 brands withthe most miles driven; the Chevrolet Volt recorded the
first famous fire when obliterated by the NHSTA in a parking lot due to a
failure to dischargethe battery after crash testing. This would be equal to
leaving gas in the tankof a crashed vehicle which NHSTA NEVER does so  we count
this one with anasterisk. Of the billion combined miles of the LEAF, Volt, and
Ford Energiseries, no fires have broken out for customers while parked,
driving, chargingor collisions of  these plug-ins.

Asfor the five Model S fires in question, the true cause of one is still
underinvestigation, but with well over 125,000,000 Tesla miles, we would still
need11 Tesla fires to equal the fires of the tried and true Internal
CombustionEngine.

Oneshould always strive for complete safety, but does the data not speak
foritself when it comes to which type vehicle is the safest?  As for
thequestion of deaths, the Model S received it’s first fatality with a
stolenModel S that was ripped in half at the end of a high speed police chase
in July2014. The victim was thrown from the vehicle and later died from the
injuriessuffered in the collision.

which was parked in the garage at the time.

The family was home at the time and all members including pets escaped
without injury.

Fire teams attended a fire at 42 Fletcher Place at around 11:50 a.m. on
Sunday, in which the house’s garage was “fully involved,” causing it
extensive damage.

Regina Fire Services said the homeowner indicated that an electric car had
caught fire, a blaze which then spread to the garage. Fire teams were on the
scene within minutes, however, and prevented further damage.

“It didn’t take us long to take control of the fire,” deputy fire chief
Layne Jackson said. “The guys did a really quick attack on it. Nobody was
hurt and we were able to keep it isolated to the garage and keep it from
spreading into the house.”

An investigation into the fire is ongoing, Jackson said.

Electric car may have started Regina garage fire
August 1, 2016  Lisa Schick

An electric car may have been the cause of a mid-day garage fire in Regina
on Sunday.

Crews were called out around noon to 42 Fletcher Place in the University
Park area where an attached garage was on fire.

Everyone was able to get out of the house alright.

Crews attacked the flames quickly when they arrived and were able to stop
the fire from moving into the rest of the house.

The homeowner said an electric car was in the garage and had started the
fire, but Regina Fire & Protective Services said it hadn't verified that
yet.

An investigator will be looking into the fire this week.
