Maybe it is time we all get a beer, sit back, cool off, relax, and take a
break. Trump and the Republicans won the election. They will set the tone for
the next four years. However, at present we do not know the sound of the tone.
Let's give it some time to develop before talking doom and gloom of EVs.

As to the death of EVs, I do not think it will happen because of the following:

(1) Tesla has shown that a manufacturer can produce a saleable EV and make a
profit. The other auto manufacturers cannot let Tesla be the only game in town.

(2) CA and other places have enacted zero car emission requirements. CA is
such a large buyer of cars the auto companies must respond. Remember the main
reason for the development of the EV1 was CA's zero emission requirement.

(3) Some people that have purchased EVs as ICE replacements the last few years
like the cars. Some of the reasons are (a) they do not like pumping their own
gas or going to places that have gas pumps (b) they do not like going to get an
oil change. It is a bad experience. (c) they do not like going to and having
to take time off for dealer maintenance. Again, bad experience. (d) they have
learn that a car with 100mi range is OK. They really like the 200 mi range (it
may be the tipping point) (e) they do not like having to pay for a product
(gas) that can go way up in price (in general they hate big oil, even the red
neck Trump supporters hate big oil)

(4) Some countries such as China and India, who have a lot of people, have low
oil reserves. They will continue to develop EVs and alternative energy.

(5) There is a segment of the population that has always liked EVs and
alternative energy and they have money to buy the products.

I would say the genie is out of its bottle and it is not going back into the
bottle. They were able to kill the EV1 because it was only a single genie
based on a single state requirement. Times have changed and a change in the
administration in DC may slow down the electrification of transportation but it
cannot stop it.

Therefore, lets move on to what needs to be done to move forward.

Subject: Re: [EVDL] Inside EV's headline - Get Ready For A War -

Easy, folks. I know there's a lot of concern and consternation abroad, yea
verily a lot of anger -- but please, I ask you again to be careful about
partisan politics in your posts.

We're headed for trouble here in the US, largely because politicians have
for decades been pushing an us-versus-them agenda. They demonize and
dehumanize people who have different goals and convictions. We've seen
where that gets you in Rwanda, Kosovo, Iraq, Afghanistan, and far too many
other places.

Here in America we've already fought one civil war. Don't think it can't
happen again. For some self-styled "warriors," EVs and even "greenish"
ICEVs mark us as the enemy. Keep your wits about you.

This is only one element of the degeneration of our society, but it's one
that we have some control over right here on the EVDL. Please, let's
concentrate on what we have in common -- the conviction that EVs are good
for us and for society in general -- not on what divides us.

The EVDL remains one of the most civil places on an increasingly hateful
post-truth internet. Let's keep it that way.

Thanks.
