Cutting taxes is one of those viral ideas that sounds great if you don't think about it. The average Joe thinks that anything that cuts HIS taxes is good -- he doesn't think about the consequences. So politicians and other rabble-rousers love to use it to get votes.

I don't mind an EV-specific tax if the money actually pays for some EV-related benefit. What irks me is when it just goes into a "slush fund" with no accountability on what it really gets used for (standard practice for American taxation).
