This is a move that is sure to at minimum annoy BMW purists. This news comes from Thedrive.com. While a lot of sports car enthusiasts do not like the idea of going electric BMW and Porsche have both been making pushes for more of their clientele to consider electric vehicles which could be the future of the automobile. Hybrids have seen some evolution for the sportscar with cars such as the Ferrari LaFerrari, Porsche 918 or the McLaren P1, cars that used the electric technology to get more power out of the vehicle. That is something that BMW might consider in the interim between now and their switch over to fully electric vehicles by 2030. "For sure, all M vehicles will be electrified by the end of the next decade, That's going to happen step-by-step. The important question is the timing question—what's the right time for that?" says BMW's M division CEO Frank Van Meel regarding the switch to electric. "If you're too late then you're too late, but if you're too early then you don't have the 'straight to the point' technology." Of all of the major manufacturers, BMW is being one of the more progressive ones when it comes to electrifying their cars with General Motors not far behind. BMW made a great start with some of their electric cars and hybrids as it stands. They may not have the range yet, but they are working on that to improve the car overall. They may even want to partner up with GM who have been working on electric cars off and on for decades. If they did so, that would allow them to catch up in terms of range and may even allow them to innovate in some unexpected ways.
