Tesla recently shared a video showing workers — both human and machine — assemble each part of the company’s mid-priced Model 3 vehicle from start to finish. In a 42-second timelapse, Tesla documents the skeleton of a Model 3 vehicle going down the assembly line, while workers install each of its 10,000 parts to get it ready to hit the road. The Tesla Model 3, which was unveiled in March 2016, is built at the company’s factory in Fremont, California. Earlier this year, Tesla CEO Elon Musk spoke about the “production hell” issues revolving around the Model 3 assembly line, which is considered one of the most robotics-driven in the planet. Musk told CBS that the robots sometimes actually slowed down production. “We had this crazy, complex network of conveyor belts….And it was not working, so we got rid of that whole thing,” Musk said. Musk personally took over the Model 3 production line at the beginning of April. He told CBS he even resorted to pulling all-nighters at the plant and, at times, even sleeping at the factory. The video does show that Tesla has brought more human workers back to the assembly line, as several technicians can be seen assembling various parts during the timelapse. The Model 3 comes with the option of dual motor all-wheel drive, 20” performance wheels and brakes, and lowered suspension for total control, according to the Tesla website. The Model 3’s carbon fiber spoiler improves its stability at high speeds, and allows it to accelerate from 0-60 mph in as little as 3.3 seconds.
