New images have emerged of the interior of the all-electric 600km range BMW
i4, expected to enter production in 2021. BMW, which will expand e-car
portfolio in the next few years, is undertaking an estimated $225 million
renovation of its Munich factory.

BMW had previously released images of the camouflaged i4 prototype last
month when it was being tested in harsh winter conditions in the Artic
Circle along with the new BMW iX3 and iNEXT. The prototype of the i4
features an exterior design that is similar to the 4 Series Gran Coupe.

Though some will be reassured by its somewhat standard styling, more
conservative buyers may be put off by its less than conventional design. The
interior, however, is rather staid with a side-by-side digital instrument
display and infotainment screen, similar to those seen in existing
combustion BMW models. BMW is predicted to integrate a much more ultramodern
design in its level 3 autonomous BMW iNEXT, which is expected to begin
production in 2021.

The i4 will be built using the automaker’s highly adjustable CLAR platform,
which can accommodate combustion, plug-in hybrid, and pure-electric
powertrains. The model is expected to be offered with 60 and 80 kWh battery
packs, which will provide up to 600km range. Also, rear-wheel drive and
all-wheel drive options will be available. The most powerful model will
reportedly accelerate from 0-100 km/hr in just over four seconds.

Aside from the i4 and iNEXT, which will be built at the Dingolfing plant,
BMW is also working on the iX3 which is expected to hit the market by next
year. The iX3 SAV — a sports activity vehicle — will include the automaker’s
fifth generation e-drive tech, have 400km range and charge at a rate of up
to 150kW. The model will be manufactured for a global market by BMW’s JV
Brilliance Automotive in Shangyang, China.

BMW launched their first electric car, the i3 city car, in 2013. The i3 was
the first mass-production car to feature a mostly carbon-fiber structure.
BMW's first hybrid sportscar, as well as the first mid-engined car since the
M1, named the BMW i8, debuted in 2014. The i8 is the first car to feature
the automaker's first inline-three engine, the BMW B38.

If Electric Car Maker Enovate Can Produce An EV With A Solid-State Battery,
Everything Changes
