There seems to be a new generation of lower priced EVSEs "out there". eBay has some 16a/240vac for less than $160. But, without the 120vac adapter. My experience is that any 240vac EVSE will work on 120vac but not vice versa, so you should be able to configure an adapter for 120 and 240 operation.
These are now cheap enough to be considered for "carry around" units to be able to hook up to 240 when the need arises.
