An attempted U-turn by the driver of a 2018 Tesla in Springfield has resulted in the death of a Woodbridge motorcyclist. The Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) reported that Wayne Marbury, 66, of Woodbridge, died in a fatal crash at the intersection of Loisdale Road and Loisdale Court, which is right next to a Tesla Supercharger station outside Springfield Town Center. The incident happened on the afternoon of Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2019, around 1:40 p.m. FCPD’s Franconia Police District said speed and alcohol were not believed to be factors in crash, but charges against the Tesla driver were pending further investigation. “A 2018 Tesla was traveling eastbound on Loisdale Road; the driver attempted a U-turn at Loisdale Court and struck a 2002 Honda motorcycle that was traveling westbound,” FCPD stated in a report published Sept. 12. “The motorcyclist, Marbury, was taken to a hospital where he died.” Springfield is a major hub for operators of technology entrepreneur Elon Musk’s popular electric vehicle. In fact, the Tesla Supercharger in the parking lot of Springfield Town Center is one of the largest company-owned charging sites in Northern Virginia. According to police, the Tesla driver remained at the scene and was cooperating with investigators. There is likely footage of the incident taken by the vehicle’s many embedded cameras.
