They used a Hughes ACIM with a 9,000 RPM redline. They used the manual gearbox in the truck which has a second gear ratio of 2.37 and they removed the stick, instead permanently keeping the transmission in 2nd gear with a bracket over the gearbox. The default rear end ratio is 3.73 but optional you can get a 4.10 ratio differential, which they did to get the proper reduction for the motor they used and the standard 205/75R15 tires that this truck has. These tires have about 770 revs per mile. The ratios work out to give the tires a speed of 9000 / (2.37 x 4.10) = 926 RPM This works out to be a distance of 926/770 = 1.2 miles per minute, which is 72 MPH. The motor inverter limits the motor speed to 9,000 RPM although coasting down a hill on the freeway I have gone above 75 but normally the 72 is fine and I can keep up with most traffic. Cor.
