Perhaps that is not candid? Or, maybe I do not understand your rate structure. Mine is flat across time.

We have to pay for our PV installations. At common values of electric energy, the "pay back period" is typically somewhere in the range of 8 years to 20 years. Since the life of a PV system is somewhere around 20 years, the produced electric energy may be priced as if purchased from the utility.

I sell my excess energy to my utility and they pay about $.064/kwh. So, I figure my cost of EV charging is about that $.064. Still, more attractive than the utility rate of about $.10/kwh..

I'm all in favor of the energy independence PV represents, but saying that PV energy is "free" may not be accurate.
