A Chinley man is planning to drive from Land’s End to John O'Groats in a
Tesla Roadster - hoping to smash the time set by its original owner nine
years ago.

Nicolas Raimo, 33, will be undertaking the gruelling non-stop road trip
along with pal Dean Fielding, 30.

The pair hope to complete the trip in under 30 hours in the same car which
Dean bought from Kevin Sharpe - who took on the feat in 2011 and completed
it in 36 hours.

Ironically electric car YouTuber Nicolas says he and Dean will beat Kevin’s
attempt by stopping to charge the car’s battery more frequently than their
predecessor’s six stops during his 2011 trip.

Nicolas plans to stop eight times and charge the battery to just 80 per cent
capacity - saving precious time he says eco-friendly charity boss Kevin
would have lost fully charging the battery.

Explaining the concept he said: “Batteries are just like stadiums - as they
get fuller it takes much longer for people to find seats.”

The pair hope to keep the car - which is worth up to £100,000 and has a top
speed of 125mph - at a steady 55-60mph.

Nicolas told how the car - which has 70,000 miles on the clock - made for a
rather bumpy ride and he initially refused Dean’s invitation to join him for
the challenge.

He said: “I didn’t think 30 hours in a car with no sleep sounded like much
fun - but he pressured me into it.

“We want to prove with a little bit of planning you can go literally
anywhere in an electric car.

“If you look at the High Peak now there’s a charging point in Morrisons.”

High Peak Borough Council have also announced plans for electric vehicle
charging in Buxton’s South Street, Chapel-en-le-Frith’s Miry Meadow, the
Municipal Buildings in Glossop and Hope car park.

Speaking about the ten-year-old collector’s item Roadster Nicolas said: “My
mate drives it everyday - it does 0-60 in 3.7 seconds and a top speed of
125mph.”

Nicolas and Dean are planning to take on their record-breaking attempt in
May.
