Looks like one can have their Leafs prismatic flat pack pack with no TMS replaced with cylindrical lithium cells with thermal management at less than half of what Nissan will charge you for a new pack. Plus you can buy into a low cost battery degradation prevention subscription service.

This is a wholly new battery pack design that will initially be compatible with earlier generations of Leaf. (Prior to 2018) This pack will use Lithium-Ion technology and will use cells similar to those used in Tesla’s battery packs. Much of the technology we are using will be revealed at a later date as we are still working on the patenting of our solution. We can tell you a few things about our solution, for example, we will be using cylindrical cells rather than the Leaf’s prismatic/pouch cells. To the Leaf’s computers, the pack will appear to be identical to the original pack. Our replacement does have an active thermal management solution for the pack, unlike Nissan’s stock pack that lacks temperature management. And the pack WILL be serviceable, allowing replacement of individual modules that contain cells that are starting to degrade and be able to keep the pack in top performance indefinitely.
