If it's to be sold in the US, presumably.

The price before incentives is $20,500.

I've been saying for years that the major automakers had better watch out.
They're due for another whack over the head, similar to what the Japanese
automakers gave them in the mid-1970s. This time it's likely to be EVs from
China and perhaps India, IF the manufacturers can pull off an adequate level
of competition on features, quality, and price.

Whether this company can manage those requirements remains to be seen.

I foresee a competitive low end in Europe, and I think EVs like this without
much history behind them will struggle there unless they're REALLY
aggressive on price.

If Kandi try to sell this K27 in the EU, it will go head to head with the
Dacia Spring. The Spring is supposed to become widely available next
autumn, with a few to be sold in the spring of 2021.

For an only slightly higher price, around 18,000 euro (US$21,600), the
Spring - also made in China - has significantly more to offer.

For one thing, Renault is behind the Spring. They're a fairly stable firm
with 8 years of EV experience; their Zoe has been consistently at or near
the top of the EU EV market in sales. I'm pretty sure I recall reading that
Renault actually own the Spring factory, which I think is somewhat unusual
in China.

The Spring specs out closer to the typical EU mini class EV hatch: length
3.7m, battery 28.6kWh, range 225km (140mi, WLTP), top speed 125km/h (78mph),
acceleration 0-100km/h in 15sec. AC charging 6.6kW. CCS is optional but
it's only 30kW.

Compared to the Spring's numbers, the K27's 17.7kWh battery, 100mi range,
and 63mph top speed don't look all that impressive.

BUT, I doubt that you'll ever see the Dacia Spring or anything similar on
offer here in the US. We've never gotten the world's really small,
efficient ICEVs, and we're not getting their small, efficient EVs, either.
So it might be a shrewd move on Kandi's part to offer theirs here. I'd be
wary of the K27's quality control and the manufacturer's long term
stability, though.

It will be interesting to see how it does.
