For decades EV hobbyists dismissed regen as not worth the extra effort to implement. "Just add another battery or two," they said. That's a pragmatic answer when you've chosen a series DC motor, which is really tough to use for regen. But in fact, under the right circumstances, regen is like leveling out the hills. If: 1. Your EV has aggressive, efficient regen 2. You use it effectively 3. The uphill part of your trip is at the start, OR you start with a battery not fully charged Then a trip through hilly terrain will use very little more energy than the same distance traveled over flat terrain.
