Happy Birthday Harrison It’s certainly worth celebrating you and Open Space, even though I can’t remember exactly when we met, I do remember where. It was at an uninspiring hotel just near Melbourne airport, organised of course, by dear Brian Bainbridge. Rob Chaffe was there too. How sad that neither are still with us. Like others have said, Open Space changed my life and introduced me to many wonderful people who pop up on this list, and always make me smile to know they, and others, are out there in the world opening spaces. We met in 1995 when a friend from Antioch University Seattle sent me an article from Training Magazine on Open Space Technology and I called you. It changed my life. You gave words and a framework to something I’d been playing with: the importance of random encounters for creativity and innovation — for “learning organizations" to flourish. Of course I joined the party. WE started this listserv. When you came to Seattle as part of your world tour with the idea of forming the Open Space Institute (OSI) in 1996, I was one of 7 who contributed $10 so we had the $70 required to apply for nonprofit status in the US. We quickly learned that our colleagues in Australia and Canada, who also formed OSI’s, expected that we add -US to our name. We did. And a network was acknowledged.    All this is to say happy birthday Harrison. Thank you for being you. It has been a ride!
