Hi Stephen P. King L's universe is a case of downward causation from the top (the One). So the top (the One) is absolutely necessary. You must be thinking of materialism, which causes upward from the bottom and is Godless and mindless, at least strictly speaking.

The role of the One to act as an external absolute observer is no longer a necessary hypothesis. This is not to say that I am an atheist!
