IF there was this 'colonization' then we can know the colonizers must have arisen somewhere else. And it's probable they arose on a similar planet else they would not have chosen this one to 'colonize'. You can also infer that they must reside within a few million light years, since they would be little point in fiddling with events that transpire over times long compared to the information travel time of your monitoring.
