Brent, you did not mention the 'other' trillion colonizations parallel to
ours.

And "colonization" was not MY word. An older fantasy spoke about an
advanced species KNOWING about their own demise and looking for ways to
keep up with 'life' ("thinking?") (culture???) their way.
Just imagine: 5 (five!) 'originators' are sitting on a rock well preserved
- watching the advancement of their initiatives over the millennia of our
time.
Impossible? our presence is such as well.
And here come those "mundane" explanations you mentioned.
