Liz, never mind. I know you only mean to state what you think is correct.
If I may add a word of caution, please don't form or state opinions about God. Perhaps, some day, you will be blessed with faith, and then regret having said such things about God and religion which you do not understand/appreciate yet, or worse, faith is withheld from you because of it. Our eternity depends on it, or so I believe.

Why don't you apply this (good) idea to yourself? Our eternity might also depend on this, and the spiritual success of some religion too.

Do I opine about others beliefs and make fun of their faith? Can you please point out some email of mine where I have been less than respectful of anyone's religion or god(s)?

It is not respectful to presume to caution others that they will suffer in the future if they don't agree with you and to pretend that you know what is true through revelation which cannot be communicated by reason and observation, but that anyone should credence your opinion simply because you believe it.

It is the argument of a Mafioso thug to say, "You may regret not believing as I do." If you wish to be respectful, you should give respectable arguments for belief - not veiled threats based on assertions of special knowledge.

Well, perhaps I phrased that badly. I'm willing to entertain beliefs, without giving letting them move in.

Liz, I stopped 'trying' - I found the best one: the *"agnostic"* belief =

We don't, indeed. My belief consists of the existence (potentiality?) of
vast
amount of 'knowables' we have no acces to. Maybe not even the capabilities
to
    catch'em.
That is the only 'faith' I carry. And - at 93 - I do not experiment with new
    avenues for 'life'.

Liz, I hope you do not want to mix Friedrich Nietzsche into this
back-and-forth! He was a believer, otherwise he could not conclude
that
            "God is dead".

It was just a pun. "As God wills" could be taken two different ways,
you see
(at least it can if you have a twisted mind, like what I have got).

I asked par5ticipants of several 'religions' about their VERY FIRST
encounter with the concept of God and received no answer. The
positive
            negatives were of the form:
"That must have bee God (or His action)". Assumed. Or on exaples.
Or on a
Script presumed to have been written by God - exactly in that
langauge
            how it was read.

Yes, I believe the operative phrase is "Give me a boy before the age of
5 and
        he'll be mine for life"

Now the i-phone software has to be written in some 120+ languages.
Including many different alphabets. Well, things get obsolete. Even
the
US Constitution with its 200 yo text baased on a 3-500 yo philosophy
(including the right to have slaves) just for the purpose that those
educated rich gentlemen should not be forced to pay taxes to the
king of
            England.

        Indeed.

And there is that darn 'democracy' (I call it an oxymoron), nowhere
and
never has it been practically established. It includes the
suppression of
a minority and prctically the totality of the people cannot fulfill
the
            wish of all of them.

Yes it's been proved (I'm told) that these is no system of democracy
that can
work as intended. As Churchill said, it's the worst system we've tried
(apart
        from all the other ones).

And then come the big joke: to propose to authoritarian religious
            communities to become democratic.

Yes, this is a peculiar programme, just trying to impose your worldview
on
others. Kind of the opposite of "democracy" (envisaged as freedom).
Much more
to the point are the rights of individuals to determine their own lives,
however that isn't going to happen while corporate interests are
running the
world. Time for another revolution - maybe an electronic one rather than
        cutting heads off this time?

            So: P E A C E !

I wish. If we stopped spending on wars we could have utopia up and
running
        this time next week.

I propose to let our beloved friend be happy in her devoted belief
- I
            learned from her.

As if we have an alternative... :-)

John Mikes who tried several avenues of 'beliefs'

Me too, and indeed I am still doing so.
