Okaaaay... Well thanks for that. I think. He's willing to be somewhat loose 
with the science but on the other hand he wants it to be passably plausible to 
a scientifically educated reader. Btw I disagree on your definition of science 
fiction. Many sci fi authors aim for a very high level if scientific accuracy. 
Of course there are many exceptions (most popular sci fi films and tv for 
example).
