Well, as long as you brought personality into your observations, Lubos Motl is
not a Left schmuck like Carroll or Larry Krauss. having said this, Caroll may
have indeed come up with a fix for observers in the Everett MWI interpretation
of quantum mechanics. Motl the Czech, is a physicist that needs more credit not
criticism. Carroll does have the smugness factor going on, and whatever his
politics, I find this disagreeable myself. I will, emotionally, side with
Maimon on this, simply because I don't fully trust Carroll, in the same sense
that you are suspicious of Lubos Motl. But, on all of this-you could be
well-right.

Subject: Carroll and Motul

An excellent talk by Sean Carroll explicating where the gaps are in Everett's
MWI as applied to cosmology and providing a solution to the Boltzmann brain
problem:

Note that toward the end he seems to require a conscious observer to bottom
out the epistemology, i.e. to have a measurement actually made. Be sure to
listen to the Q&A too.
Coincidentally, I came across Lubos Motul's discussion of MWI in which he has
an extended argument with Ron Maimon. I don't like Lubos's politics or his
style or argument which is arrogant and bombastic. In this case he is being
very critical of Sean Carroll whom is a very nice guy and I do like - but I
think Lubos makes some fair points.
