Some Nazis exhibited perseverance, competence, courage, and other qualities.
Some Germans
were probably wise to join the party, even if they didn't sympathize with it's
aims. You
seem to want "intelligence" to just mean whatever you admire and "stupidity"
whatever you
dislike. You take them as moral/ethical categories and pretend that they are
validated by
your TOE - but I think that is wishful thinking.
Good point Bruno -- people whom we may despise for moral, political or other
reasons are not therefore necessarily "stupid". An enemy may be an enemy, but
they can be an intelligent enemy. In fact it is a classic mistake of many
civilizations to underestimate the intelligence of opposing
cultures.Intelligence is orthogonal to whether or not an individual is in
agreement with the world views that one holds, at least in general manner.
Americans are particularly guilty of underestimating the intelligence of our
current "enemies" and of other cultures in general. Americans also suffer as a
group from this kind of broad brush stereotyping -- as is clear in the fairly
widespread "stupid Americans" meme that is held by a lot of people in various
places in the world.Classically power systems seek to dehumanize opposition, to
strip opponents of the nuance of the human condition and replace a complex
multi-faceted reality with a simplistic manichean narrative that serves the
propaganda interests of whatever power structure is promoting the stereotypical
