This last sentence is usually the AI researcher's lament: that people
always move the goalposts when something is achieved. It happened with
chess for example.

Stage 1: there's no way a computer will ever be able to defeat a
competent human player at chess;
Stage 2: computer defeats best human chess player;
Stage 3: what the program did was not intelligent, it's just
brute-force based on the ability to do millions of calculations per
second;
Stage 4: there's no way a computer will ever be able to defeat a
competent human player at go;
etc.
