My point is that it must generate millions of guesses just to get a handful that actually work. And I'll readily admit that the fact that it only takes a million (or whatever) tries to get something that works is actually damned impressive, and makes AlphaCode worthy of the attention it's getting. We can argue about how much improvement in the guesswork is possible - you might argue that in the future it will only need 1000 guesses, or fewer.
