The way to avoid them would be to restructure the code, and that isn't happening soon (?). What they warn against works fine on all platforms that Evolution runs on anyway (Linux, Solaris, maybe other ELF-based POSIX systems, Windows). If Evolution would be ported to some other kind of system (non-ELF POSIXes like (older?)
