Thanks, Harish, for the lead - Yes, 2.10 will boast a huge improvement
in terms of performance than its predecessors.  

2.10 has: 
        + greatly improved GAL caching, 
        + the most wanted public folders (with subfolders) support with much
much improved performance
        + improved calendar support
        + improved initial loading of mails

Things that are being worked upon
        + 2007 support
        + Connectivity issues/crashers.
