That would be better than nothing, though not ideal (you would lose the position of the last message you were looking at, assuming it's now been marked as Read). However instead of "oldest unread" I would prefer "first unread", as defined by the folder sort order rather than date. The user orders the folder by some preferred criterion and that should be taken into account. Even the concept of "oldest" isn't clear (sent date?, arrival order?). Noite that "first" also depends on the whether the folder is sorted in increasing or decreasing order.
