The latest version, i.e. evolution-data-server-3.20.5- 4.4.fc24.x86_64.rpm, on the Fedora build server (koji) is so far working perfectly, both for the Calendar and other authentication issues, and also for the "hang while sending" and other hangs. I've no idea how they are all related but they all started at the same time and now have all vanished, touch wood.
