Well, IMHO there where at least the same amount of "issues" with 1.0.x
versions. ;)
Current 1.4.4 is very fine IMHO -- I cannot judge, if there are issues
that may affect you. But as you already waited that long, it probably is
worth to wait for 1.4.5 to be released. It should be real soon now...
