Well you see, this is a GNU project, licensed under the GPL.  It is not
merely a question of what we'd like to do, it is also a question of what
we are legally required to do.  We simply cannot link with OpenLDAP.
There are currently no suitable alternatives that we have found that we
can link with.

We investigated the mozilla stuff but that isn't suitably licensed
either (yet, this may change with any luck).

Easier?  Its just a fact.

I'm sure if your (or any other) organisation would like to contribute
some resources to it, Ximian would be glad to work on a solution.
Otherwise you'll have to wait until the facts change
