There was a lot of work done on font support for RH 8.0, but I'm not
sure how much of it is related to GNOME2 vs RH 8.  I know there are
issues with running GTK1 apps under GTK2 (mostly related to locale, I
think) but perhaps there are other, more subtle incompatibilities that
are just now showing up as the result of this work.
