Not at all. There's a large variety of lists out there, not all of them
are discussion lists. For example, on the Linux Managers mailing list a
question is posted, all replies are sent to the poster, and the poster
summarizes the replies to the list. There are other types lists where
mailing people privately is either the norm, or very common.

You mean like the Evolution list? I wasn't talking about how the
mailing list manager handles it, this is completely unrelated to
Evolution.

The problem that's hard to solve is for the mail client (Evolution) to
determine what the list is, and to automatically generate the correct
reply destination.

Oh, sorry, I put a 'not' in there where it shouldn't have been. "That
is to say, reply-to-all only results in the original poster getting two
copies of the mail if they ARE on the list.

I'm sorry Ray, I'm afraid I couldn't make heads nor tails of your two
paragraphs here. Could you try again, perhaps with things broken into
shorter sentences?

Isn't this just a case of "Followup" being renamed to "reply to list" in
Evolution? I know that reply to list isn't perfect, but it does "work"
most of the time (except for it not being on the toolbar).

This is a possibility, and mutt (among others, I'm sure) does it this
way. I'm of the opinion that asking the user is the "lazy man's" way
out. I would much prefer to figure out the "right way" to do this (I'm
sure there is one, but I haven't found it by working on the problem in
the idle cycles of my brain).
