We implemented it in our office and people love it. It makes it so easy to set up conferences with people who telecommute or are on the road. As for your viewpoints
1) You might want to consider a 3rd party IM program then. You can back up the history file in most of those programs, but users would also be able to edit their history. So the system isn't foolproof. 2) If their going to break them via IM, then it's more then likely that their being broken at the "watercooler." 3) See 1. 4) Makes users more productive.
