It shouldn't cause anything bad. Now instead of using resources on trying to
send those NDRs the resources will be used on the Exchange server and on the
GC running LDAP queries for every inbound message that hits the Exchange
server. I am not sure if it is a 50-50 trade-off. But if anything, you won't
have a ton of bad messages files in the queue.

Oh Yes it makes perfect sense when explained straight forward (like you
did) but who the heck writes the M$ tech notes. :( They make it sound like
the setting only effects a persons ability to relay through your server.

But thanks... everything seems to be working now. I also found out the
answer to my previous problem #1 how do reduce the amount of stuck NDRs.

In Exchange Manager\Global Settings\Message Delivery Properties\Recipent
Filtering

There is a check box that says "Filter Recipents who are not in the
directory."

Turn that on then go to the SMPT Virtual server
Properties\Advanced\Edit\Apply Recipent Filter

Then stop and start the SMTP service. The E2k3 server should now reject all
email to users who don't exist in AD before it generates a NDR.

In the default config E2k3 will accept email to any name (in the domain) and
then generate an NDR after, if that name does not have a mailbox. Right now
Spoofed Spam NDRs are tying up resources on my server trying to deliver NDRs
to sites that don't exist.

My disclaimer is... Microsoft Support informed me of this filter option and
I can't say for sure it works as described. But I turned it on and if
anything bad happens I'll post it.

Thanks
Jim

But think logically. Imagine a Yahoo smtp server trying to deliver a message
to your Exchange server. How possibly can a Yahoo mail server authenticate
against your AD?
