Rich text is platform specific. If you said HTML in your last statement then
I would have probably agreed with you. But the fact is that too many people
abuse it for it to be more necessary then it is annoying.

Your point being what? Even without word as an e-mail editor Outlook, the
built in editor is quite capable of composing rich text messages.
While this message is readable in pine, not every message I send is.
Rich text absolutely has a place in communication.

Ah true. But I bet you that his CEO doesn't realize how annoying his cutesy
background, bolded, huge colored font and other little markup things are to
the rest of the world.

Absolutely. I composed this message with Word as my e-mail editor and it's
perfectly readable in pine or mail or Mail.

Do you deal with any people that don't use a windows based mail reader like
pine?

I use word as my e-mail editor. Convince me that I don't need it....
Course I waited til 2003 to start using it again. ;)

Um, no.

Presented correctly, there's no good reason he'd (she?) need to continue
using that setup. I bet with 5 minutes of conversation about perceived
needs, you could get him to stop. Its worked for me on more than one
occasion.

Keep in mind that they pay you to be the expert on this stuff...
