While I totally agree with Ed.....

For me I find people and even management do not follow the rules, not to
mention the people who come and with their laptops and just plug into your
network..with out approval..consulatants, auditors etc....

With that said...
You might have to get a thrid party app

I use a combination of Surfcontrol URL filter (other URL type filters do all
kinds of clever stuff)
Just purchased Axionx L7 (hey well they do want IM so I have to manage it
some way)
Facetime makes a nice product too...

BUT there' no free lunch

Even though you policy is write to prohibit users from changing,
loading,,,...etc....
It does happen and I have yet to be able to get somone fired for doing it

Dispite getting hammered by a viures which took aprt s of the networ down
for day's

2 cents
Good luck
Bill

Oh, and I forgot the obvious one. Get your CEO to update the company
policy, and send a message to all employees informing them that IM is
prohibited. Then enforce the policy.

There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems.

Subject: Disabling Instant Message & 3rd Party email access

We are currently looking into disabling all Instant Messaging and any 3rd
party email access from our user desktops. Any information you can provide
would point us in the right direction.
