If you have both Exchange 2000 and 2003 as your back end, make sure that you make an Exchange 2000 box as your front end. If you make a 2003 as a front end it will not be able to talk to the 2000. Get a paper from MS site that will explain that to you and other aspects of deploying Front-end OWA servers
