I believe I found Sysprep on the 2000 CD or the 2000 Resource CD...I
forget
exactly....
I also think a newer version is avaliable via download from MS ...search
technet...

I do all my present workstations (W2Ksp4) via Ghost 6.5 enterprise
Server I tend to still build one at a time..though I have ghosted a
couple
and have had good luck...

Really? I have pretty good luck with Ghost.

I just found the .exe for Ghost Walker. In the Standard version, it's a
DOS
file - and they make no mention of it anywhere in the Docs. In the
Enterprise Version, there are direct references it right inside of the
GUI
Console. So unless you do some snooping around (when using the standard
version), the average user would never know that they are already
sitting on
the executable - rather than hunting high and low for it.

I just ran it, and it worked like a dream. The sucker joined the
Domain,
rebooted, and I logged in with no problems at all. Whew! That is
done...

Every time I see references Sysprep (in Yahoo, etc.) - I get the
impression
that you have to contact MS for that directly. Is that true?
Or can I download it somewhere?

Thanks for the info,

Mike

Yeah - we use Sysprep before doing the images for our desktops. I still
try
to avoid using any imaging programs for servers. I don't trust 'em.

I thought that Ghost included a utility for that? Ghostwalker or
something
like that?

Subject: Changing SID?

Hello,

I have an Exchange Box, that I ghosted to another hard drive. I did
this,
because I need another duplicate machine - so I can plop it into a
testing
environment. Also, the amount of customization and software on the
original
machine, was extensive - and doing it this way, will save me many, many
hours of work.

Now I changed the ghosted machine name, etc. so there would not be any
name
collisions on the network when I first brought it up on the network, but
when it comes time to join the Domain, and then log into it, I get an
error
message. When I look into the Event Logs, it says it's because it
already
detected another system with the same SID on the network (which makes
total
sense).

Since Ghost is such a tremendously popular method of duplicating
machines,
etc. surely there must be a utility out there, that lets you change or
produce new SIDs for machines.

Could anybody point me in the right direction, regarding this topic?

Thanks in advance,

Mike
