A couple of reasons Off the top of my head: First: When you use your Outlook 2003 version to open a client's mailbox, two changes occur to the mailbox: 1) They now have a new folder called "Junk E-mail" 2) They have an extra field added to their Calendar that did not exist in OL2000. How this effects the client: 1) When the client now uses his own Outlook 2000 client everything is ok until they try to log out. Their account will not close. Task manager is necessary to kill the Outlook.exe each time. Solution: 1) Delete the "Junk E-mail" system folder 2) Have the client log into their Outlook using the ".../CleanFreeBusy" switch. Then log out. They will need to kill Outlook.exe in the task manager this last time. The next time they log in all will be back to normal. (Until their account is opened in OL2003 again). I am not sure if this is effected by the use of OWA 2003. I will be testing later this week.
Second: Outlook 2003 implements a change in how it exits if some synching software started Outlook first and still has the PDA in the cradle when you try to exit Outlook from the user interface. Previous versions killed that session and exited Outlook completely. Outlook 2003 doesn't exit if the PDA is still in the cradle. So there are 2 options. 1) Remove the PDA from the cradle before you exit Outlook. 2) Start up Outlook yourself with no PDA in the cradle and then start the synching software after Outlook starts. In both cases Outlook should then be able to completely exit. As far as I can tell, the user experiencing this behavior have touched their mailbox with an Outlook 2003 client, and now the Outlook 2000 client hangs on exiting, closing and shutting down. -----Original Message----- From: David, Andy [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, May 12, 2004 8:43 AM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: Outlook 2000 Freezing Up on shut down Same reasons as I mentioned below. Something is probably hanging up the mapi spooler. -----Original Message----- From: Roland, Duane [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, May 12, 2004 11:41 AM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: Outlook 2000 Freezing Up on shut down This behavior is happening at our site as well when running Outlook 2000 clients (all tested SR's and hotfixes) with Exchange 5.5 SP4 servers on the backend. Outlook 2003 closes fine for the same user. Odd. Any ideas? -----Original Message----- From: David, Andy [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, May 12, 2004 8:13 AM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: Outlook 2000 Freezing Up on shut down Reason 25 to upgrade Outlook to 2002 and above. It could be some add-ins or your AV etc.. Does it happen when they choose "exit", "exit and logoff" or either way? -----Original Message----- From: MH [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, May 12, 2004 10:13 AM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: Outlook 2000 Freezing Up on shut down I am having an issue with Outlook 2000 when end users close it down at night the app will not close out is stays at the splash screen outlook shutting down and you have to end the task before it will close. It started with one user and now has began to populate to a few more people. I have tried to delete the profile and .ost file and recreate them both but it still occurs. Any suggestions are much appreciated.
